On the afternoon of March 1, 2024, Dr. Yang led a delegation from the Intellectual Property and Innovation Research Center of Xiamen University Malaysia visited one of the oldest Malaysian IP agency firms, QO (QO PATENT SDN BHD). The delegation was received by Mr. Ong Chui Koon, a senior expert in Intellectual Property and Executive Director, Mr. Tan Sin Su, the Managing Director of QO, and Ms. Tan Shu Yee, a manager at QO. Colleagues at QO described procedures for patent application and trademark registration in Malaysia, and also provided an overview of the sectoral distribution of existing patents in Malaysia, while offering practical suggestions to Chinese enterprises investing in Malaysia on how to plan and protect their IP portfolios in the country.
Toward the end of the visit, the two parties had in-depth discussion on how to develop the Master’s Program in Intellectual Property at Xiamen University Malaysia, as well as how to promote industry engagement and international collaboration. Both sides expressed strong interest in future partnerships and cooperative endeavors.
