
Professor Cheryl Xiaoning Long Signing the Guest Book of the Law Faculty at UiTM
A delegation from Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) led by Professor Cheryl Xiaoning Long, Director of Intellectual Property and Innovation Research Centre (IPIRC), paid a visit to the Faculty of Law at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) on the afternoon of November 1, 2023. They met with UiTM Law Faculty’s Dean Hartini Binti Saripan, Professor Dato’ Dr. Rahmat bin Mohamad, Professor Dr. Lee Heng Gee, and other members of the faculty’s top management as well as faculty specialized in the IP field. The session fostered a dynamic exchange in talent cultivation, academic research, and social services between both institutions.

Professor Cheryl Xiaoning Long gave a presentation on the current initiatives of IPIRC, including the application of its Master’s Programme in Intellectual Property (MIP), the establishment of an IP talent pool, and the engagement with the industry field. She expressed confidence in IPIRC’s great potential to grow into an important platform for IP collaboration.
Dr. Mariam Aisha Fatima, Senior Manager of Research and Postgraduate Centre (RPC), provided an overview of XMUM’s history and strength in academic research, highlighting XMUM’s commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration.
Dean Hartini Binti Saripan expressed a keen interest in establishing further cooperation with XMUM and IPIRC. With common interests in interdisciplinary research and curriculum, the Faculty of Law at UiTM and IPIRC possess abundant opportunities for reciprocal learning. Both parties concurred on advancing their partnership through joint endeavours in postgraduate program development, network building for industry engagement, and comparative IP studies between Malaysia and China.

The meeting concluded with exchange of gifts symbolizing mutual respect and prospect of future collaboration. Looking into the future, Professor Cheryl Long and Dean Hartini Binti Saripan, both expressed confidence that this visit will mark the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between the two institutions.
